Eating Out With The Biggest Loser.
August 2008
Healthbolt: If you love eating out but are worried about sticking to your diet, then check out what Bernie Salazar has to say.
This ‘Biggest Loser’ reduced his body weight by 50% in six months through diet and exercise, so he can definitely ‘talk the talk’.
A Chicago Tribune reporter caught up with Bernie recently to discover how he manages to eat out once or twice a week and still manage to keep the weight off. After all, as every dieter knows, frequent restaurant visits can play havoc on your weight loss goals.
The trick, Bernie says, is to follow this tips…
- Pick the restaurant carefully.
- Don’t sacrifice taste. It doesn’t have to be bland or boring to be low in calories.
- Don’t feel guilty about what you do end up eating.
- Make smart decisions about what you order depending on the amount of exercise done and food consumed earlier in day.
- Don’t feel you have to eat a dish the way it is described on the menu. Ask for changes such as ‘baked’ instead of ‘fried’.
- Carry around a calorie counter to help you decide.
- If you think the meals too large, then get half of it boxed up and kept in the kitchen until you’re ready to leave.
- Order a dessert if you really want it, but do it rarely.
- Craving something sweet - order fruit, even if it’s not on the menu.
- Don’t eat out every day. Make it special.
Bon apetit…

Fit Gadgets: Trikke
August 2008
That’s Fit: Filed under: Fitness, Healthy Products, Fit Gadgets
Want a new way to get around that keeps your feel off the ground while keeping your core, legs, and arms engaged? You might want to consider a Trikke (pronounced trike), which is a three-wheeled cambering vehicle that’s human powered. So, like a bike, but also, not at all. Understand?
Basic physics are involved in making it go — the rider moves his center of gravity toward the center of a turn he’s making. By making these turns, you increase your speed, so you can work really hard and go as fast as 18 mph, or take it easy and creep along at a much slower pace. If that’s not making much sense, check out the Trikke website, where they have pictures and video to explain it better.
There are several models available, with kids’ versions running $79.99 and the most elaborate version, the T12 Roadster, coming in at $599.99. The T78, which looks like the basic adult version, sells on Trikke’s website for $249.99. There’s also a Skki version for snow, ringing up at $899.99. Refurbished versions of some of the models are also available at a reduced price.
